Coming This Summer . . . Mos Def is . . .

FORD PREFECT! That's right, Mos has inked a deal to play the coolest alien ever in the upcoming film version of Hitchhiker's Guide. This is officially awesome. Now if only we can get a two-headed Ludacris in as Zaphod Beeblebrox, it'll be gold. Gold, Jerry, gold!

This should be interesting. I hope they do a good job on the movie and don't change Adams' adapatation too much. I saw Mos Def in Brown Sugar; he was pretty good as a taxi cab driving rapper.

Hmmm...I wonder what the overlap is among fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide (never read it) and those of LOTR (also never read it).

Probably large. They both score highly on my internal GeekMeter (tm).

If I read you correctly, you are saying that...I'm not a geek? Outstanding.

I'm really more of a Jack of All Trades, Master of Several.

Well, I don't think I'd consider you a geek, no. Maybe a nerd, but not a geek. The general term geek has come to stand for "computer geek" which you are not. I, however, am both geek and nerd in both the primary meanings and as a member of several geek and nerd subcultures (book nerd, etc).

As a person whose interests in computer gaming and comic books have recently been performing a silent, deadly, pincer move on the defenseless stores of literary and philosophical knowledge contained in his frontal lobes, I say unto thee - speak not unto me of geekery and nerditude, or I will show you whereof you speak.

(Warning: Spoilers Ahead!)

Dude, Xorn is Magneto! And the amazing thing is, Morrison was dropping hints all along - trust me, go back and read last year's issues, and you'll start noticing little things - like how he's only ever actually 'healed' one person, even though that's supposed to be his power?

Oh dude, it's awesome. Morrison's a genius!

I don't doubt your geekiness in other interests, but as a computer geek, you would fail. Can you explain to me the difference between TCP and IP and why it's usually called TCP/IP? Do you know what a MAC address is what it's needed for? Do you know what a pointer is? Can you discuss the differences between Perl and C++? These are all very basic concepts for true geeks.

Has anyone else ever seen the low-budget adaptation from the Monty Python actors? Pretty funny stuff.

And David--Hitchhiker's Guide is a hilarious read. You would enjoy it.
